CHAPTER FOUR

“You never did say what happened to Frankie. Who broke his heart and caused him to latch onto you?” Peter asked. The first chance he got, he’d check the number for Frankie against the number in his phone. A thought occurred to him, though. If Frankie had been the one calling, Kenley would’ve recognized the number but still.

“There was a guy named Lance. I don’t know. They met at a club or something. Had sex at the club and in the alley. He thought it was true love, but the guy stuffed him and dumped him.” Kenley shrugged. “They were together a whole five hours. I’m not sure that’s true love.”

“I don’t know. We fell into a good thing rather quickly.” He grabbed Kenley’s butt again. “Some might say a one-night stand followed by two months of nothing, then practically living together once we reconnected is too fast.”

“You are hard to resist, and I didn’t want to fight my desire for you.” Kenley draped his arms around Peter’s neck. “Plus, you’re like my drug. I need you around.”

“When I needed someone while I was on the road, I missed being able to pad into the bedroom and see your handsome face. You’re easy to talk to, easy on the eyes and in my soul.” He rubbed his thumb across Kenley’s bottom lip. “I understand Frankie’s desire to get you back. He won’t without a fight, but I understand.”

“I’m glad one of us does.” Kenley half-grinned. “Other than wanting money or a place to crash, I don’t see his reasoning for bothering me.”

“He knows you’ve got a good heart, and you’re concerned about him. You might hate him, but you still worry. That’s hard to find, but unfortunately, he fucked that up by cheating. He doesn’t understand true desire.” He pressed a kiss to Kenley’s mouth. “Speaking of desire and setting things straight, I cannot wait to get you back into bed. First, I want to dive into those sticky buns. You spoil me.”

Kenley shrugged. “I can’t exactly get you expensive stuff for Christmas, but I can bake and cook.”

He placed his finger over Kenley’s lips. “Don’t you dare tell me we’re going to have a contest over Christmas presents.”

“I can’t afford the watch you said you wanted or the cologne you have that I love. I barely scraped enough together to get what I did get you.” Kenley shimmied off Peter’s lap. “I know, it’s the thought that counts.”

“You’ve got me pegged as just about the most shallow person there is. Sure, it’s Christmas and I got you a few things, but you have no idea how much you give me by sticking with me. You’re the first person I’ve ever really loved who hasn’t wanted something from me.” He’d have to work on showing Kenley how he felt, not just saying the words. He’d also have to do a better job of sticking around. “This isn’t a contest to see who can outdo the other. This is a partnership.
